NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in early July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week gives Australians an opportunity to learn more about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
The parade will begin at 10.30am with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony at Goranwarrabul House, 6 Callen St, Seymour.
Following the ceremony, there will be a parade to Kings Park, stopping at the war memorial on High St to lay a wreath.
Tucker, stalls and family friendly events will be available at Kings Park from 11am to 2pm.
Mitchell Shire Acting Mayor Nathan Clark said the parade and community event had become a cherished tradition for the Seymour community.
"NAIDOC Week is a moment to reflect on the past, acknowledge the present and look forward to a future where we all work together towards mutual respect,” he said.
“Mitchell Shire is proud to support and participate in such an important event that fosters community spirit and unity."
This year’s NAIDOC Week parade and community event is supported by Taungurung Land and Waters Council, First Peoples Assembly of Victoria, Family Care, Rights Information and Advocacy Centre and Mitchell Shire Council.
