The Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society will be hosting a get-together on the day for knitting and crocheting enthusiasts.
Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society Secretary Pam Beerens said it is a great opportunity to meet new people and learn a new hobby.
Last year, they also hosted the same event and were welcomed warmly.
“We had people come and to learn how to knit and how to crochet, which was really good and some of those people continue on,” she said.
“We ran some workshops after that particular day and people came and continued on with that idea of what they learned to do and continue to knit and crochet.”
Ms Beerens said crocheting and knitting has come back as a hobby, and it’s the perfect weather to pick it up.
“We tend to get them started on the scarf because that's something pretty basic,” she said.
“It's just something to relax with and you achieve something.
“You make something, you achieve it in the end of the day, you can see what you've done.
“I do read books, but to have a wall of books that I've read ... it's not as satisfying as having a jumper you can wear or something for the grandchildren.”
Crocheting and knitting, although it has a very similar concept, are two different methods of fibre work.
“Knitting is basically using two needles,” Ms Beerens said.
“One uses a hook with and knitting, you use two straight needles.”
Seymour’s worldwide knitting in public day welcomes all crocheters and knitters, beginners or veterans.
“People can come along they can learn to knit and crochet, or they can bring something that currently doing,” Ms Beerens said.
“If people can bring a bowl of wool and pair of needles to match, they are more than welcome to.”
The get-together was very well-received last year with 18 people joining in, and Ms Beerens says she hopes the same for this year.
“One of those people then went on to entering in the Seymour show in October,” she said.
“There's a number of craft groups in town, and people come along.”
While last year, the society had workshops after the event, this year’s prospects of crocheting and knitting workshops are still in discussion.
“I'm not too sure whether we're going to continue with that at this point in time or not,” Ms Beerens said.
“Everybody's welcome, and subject to the interest is to whether we'll go on to organise workshops between now and the show on the fifth of October.”
