Isaiah will perform on Harmony Day, March 21, following a week of school celebrations that kicked off on Tuesday, March 15.
Italian teacher Stefania Panella has been organising the week with teaching colleagues Megan Dixon and Scott Dealy.
“There’s so much happening this week, with thanks not only to staff but the students and their input,” she said.
“We held meetings with students from different year levels and asked what they would like to see and how they want to participate; at the end of the day, it’s their celebration.
“It seems like the whole school has come together to celebrate this happy event — the kids really value the opportunity to celebrate harmony and the diversity of the school.”
A series of events incorporating song, dance, sport and activities will feature throughout the week – along with an “around the world” food experience of a diverse array of cuisines prepared by hospitality students.
She said the week was proving to be a success already, with more students than expected taking part on the first day.
Celebrations started with henna workshops, an Italian paper lanterns workshop and the commencement of Buronjan, a First Nations game the students are playing every recess until Friday, which will see a students versus staff clash.
“We are a school of many cultures and languages, which reflect our community,” Ms Panella said.
“So the four secondary schools making up GSSC have always regarded Harmony Week as a major event for the celebration of our diversity.
“Coming together on the one campus means we are greater together, therefore Harmony Week this year is greater than ever, with Isaiah’s concert an absolute bonus.”
The proud product of Yorta Yorta and Gunditjmara parents, Isaiah will take part in motivational workshops with students on March 21 before performing on the school oval for all staff and students.
