Residents in Kialla South experienced discoloured water on January 8 after a burst water main stirred up sediment in the local network.
According to Goulburn Valley Water, the issue occurred when increased water flow caused by the burst pipe disturbed sediment that had settled in the pipes over time. Crews were dispatched to repair the damaged pipe, and the network has since returned to normal.
A spokesperson from GVW reassured residents that despite the temporary discolouration, the water treatment plant continued to operate effectively, delivering water that met the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
For residents still experiencing brown water, GVW advises running an outdoor tap or sprinkler briefly until the water runs clear.
If the issue persists, residents are encouraged to contact the provider’s 24-hour customer service centre on 1800 454 500.
