Free transport for regional students studying VET

The Victorian Government has announced free transport for regional and rural students studying VET courses through a $7.5 million Transport Fund.

Students from Yea High School, Broadford Secondary College, Seymour College, St Mary’s College and Assumption College will benefit from the boost.

In all, nearly 2000 student across 81 rural and regional schools will have buses or other transport provided to and from VET classes.

The fund aims to reduce barriers to education in industries with strong workforce needs like building and construction, electrical and auto engineering by reducing out-of-pocket expenses.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the funding aimed to help students get the educational outcomes they deserve against the backdrop of a rising cost of living.

“We’re making sure local families have the support they need to get their kids on to great career paths, ensuring the basics like transport and course materials are covered, so local students can focus on getting their dream job,” she said.
