They will be in the community rattling tins for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
The brigade has long volunteered to visit Deniliquin’s caravan parks to raise more for the national fundraiser.
Last year they raised more than $12,000, contributing to a national tally of $23,368,724 - a record for the Good Friday Appeal.
The money raised goes toward the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, supporting critical research, the purchase of the latest technologies and creating a space for families and patients during such a difficult time.
Brigade Deputy Captain Les Booth has been a volunteer ‘door knocker’ since he was in high school, and now continues in his role as a firefighter.
After many years of fundraising, he personally learned the value of supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital.
“Both of my daughters have been cared for by the Royal Children’s Hospital staff - funnily enough, at the same time.
“Emme had to be in the hospital for six days, and while we were there with her, Mia became sick and needed care too. She was in hospital for three days.
“They both received top-notch care.
“And that’s why we (the Deniliquin firefighters) do this every year - it’s all about the kids.
“I’ve been volunteering ever since I was in Deniliquin Scouts.”
Deniliquin’s brigade Captain Martin Smith said raising money is an important part of the day, but the firefighters also provide a little bit of extra entertainment for families visiting Deniliquin by attending the caravan parks.
It’s also an opportunity to educate people on the role of firefighters, and the equipment they use.
“There will be displays and activities,” he said.
“The kids, or anyone, can come along and see and test some of the specialised gear.”
The brigade members will be accepting cash and card donations.
