Emergency services were called to the home just before 7am.
The home was well alight by the time they arrived, and thick smoke was blanketing the neighbourhood.
Deniliquin NSW Fire + Rescue Captain Marty Smith said the fire burned “extremely hot” and required firefighters to battle it up close.
“We responded with two appliances and 11 firefighters, and on arrival we saw a lot of smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home,” he said.
“Two firefighters in breathing apparatus issued offensive fire attack, using thermal imaging cameras due to there being zero visibility and the fire being extremely hot.
“It took us 40 minutes to extinguish the fire, but we remained on scene checking for hot spots with thermal imaging cameras.
“After atmospheric monitoring, the scene was handed to police.”
Smoke blanketed parts of south Deniliquin.
Deniliquin FRNSW Deputy Captain Les Booth said at least 70 per cent of the home was damaged by the fire.
The rest suffered smoke, heat and water damage.
Capt Smith confirmed NSW Ambulance paramedics were on site, but that no one was injured in the incident.
“The occupants were at home at the time of the fire, but were able to self evacuate and were waiting for firefighters.
“Neither the occupants or any firefighters were injured.
“Ambulances were there for firefighter welfare, which is a request we make whenever we have to use breathing apparatus.
“Police were also in attendance, as well as Essential Energy who disconnected the power.”
The fire’s cause has not yet been determined.
Police were continuing their investigations as the Pastoral Times went to print.
