The mud flicks and pastes itself on to the runners, and by the time they cross the finish line, grinning triumphantly, they’re caked in dirt.
But this won’t happen in 2025.
Or ever again.
“It is with the saddest of news that Zaidee’s Mad Cow Mud Run is cancelled for 2025 and will now never return,” Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation founder Allan Turner said.
The event, a tribute to Mr Turner’s daughter, Zaidee, who died from a cerebral aneurysm at the age of seven in 2004, has been a staple in Shepparton, raising awareness for organ donation and honouring Zaidee’s legacy of saving seven lives as an organ and tissue donor.
Over the years, the mud run became a signature event for the foundation and one of the largest events in the region, engaging the community and celebrating Zaidee’s memory.
However, declining participation numbers prompted the difficult decision to cancel the run.
“After trying to sell this event for the past 12 months with no success, Zaidee’s is moving in a new direction away from owning and running event-based activities,” Mr Turner said.
“The past four years have been very hard for us as a charity to raise funds and make our events work due to COVID-19, floods, the economy and other factors that have placed us in this position.
“I dare say this will be a very much missed and lost event for the region.”
Zaidee’s proud parents, Allan and Kim Turner, would like to thank everyone who has run, volunteered and supported the event over the years.
