Emergency water supply upgrades enhance Kilmore's drought and fire readiness

The upgrades on Mitchell Shire Council’s Emergency Water Supply Networks have been completed, just in time for potential dry spells over summer.

The network comprising bores and standpipes, and serves as a vital water resource for emergency services, livestock, and residents during crises.

The upgrades, including a new bore and standpipe in McKercher's Lane, Kilmore, have significantly improved the reliability and capacity of the existing public water network.

The $160,000 project was jointly funded by the Victorian Government's Building Works Stimulus Package and the Federal Government's National Water Grid Fund, demonstrating a united effort to improve local infrastructure.

Mitchell Shire councillor Bob Humm went to Kilmore on Thursday, December 12, along with Member for McEwan Rob Mitchell, to inspect the newly completed upgrades.

Mr Humm saod he appreciated the government's support.

“Our residents, local farmers and emergency services now have more reliable access to water for drought relief and firefighting purposes,” Mr Humm said.

“With the completion of these upgrades, Mitchell Shire now has 13 Emergency Water Supply Points throughout the region.

“These resources are critical for residents during dry periods and are heavily relied upon by the CFA when responding to fires.”
