Emergency relief centre open in Seymour, major flooding on the way

The centre has toilets, showers, emergency accommodation, basic food, free wifi and some chargers available.

Mitchell Shire Council has recommended finding alternative arrangements for pets where possible as pets and their owners may need to be separated at the centre.

A major flood warning has been issued for the Goulburn River from Lake Eildon to Seymour.

VicEmergency says these areas could be impacted anytime from Thursday afternoon.

It has warned anyone located in low lying areas or close to a waterway that they are in danger and should act immediately to protect themselves by moving to higher ground.

According to the SES, a major flood warning means that floodwater can cause widespread flooding, which threatens houses and businesses, causes properties and whole areas to be isolated, disrupts major roads and transport routes and requires many evacuations.

The Goulburn River at Seymour is expected to reach major flood level overnight on Thursday, October 13.
