The 51st annual Georgy Awards, which celebrate the best of northern Victorian theatre, judged 28 productions from 18 companies and schools this season.
Sean O’Brien and Tamara Cadd both earned Best Singing Performance nominations for their roles as the Baker and the Baker’s Wife, respectively.
Sean, who hails from Shepparton, said he loved being involved with EMTC again.
“Into the Woods is one of the most challenging musicals to perform, and I am so proud of everyone involved,” he said.
“I’m thrilled to be nominated, but I get the most satisfaction from seeing those behind the scenes being recognised.
“These people are the true talent and hidden gems in local theatre.”
Tamara was not only recognised for her singing but for Achievement in Artistic Design for creating the loveable cow Milky White.
“My highlight was seeing Bec Kellett bring Milky White to life on stage so perfectly that every audience member fell in love with her just as much as Jack did,” she said.
“Milky White has been an udder diva ever since nominations have come out.”
When asked for comment, Milky White simply said, “moo”.
Indi Gilmour, who played Red Riding Hood, is in the running for Best Junior Performance in a Senior Production and is over the moon.
“I feel extremely honoured and grateful to have been part of such an incredible show with the most talented cast and crew,” she said.
“Receiving this nomination is a huge accomplishment in itself, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
Behind the curtain, EMTC’s creative forces are also getting well-deserved nods.
Lesley Robins is up for Achievement in Wardrobe Design, and she’s particularly proud of one magical moment.
“I'm just so grateful to have worked with such an awesome team, and the highlight was seeing the witch's transformation happen,” she said.
Meanwhile, Megan Scott danced her way to a nomination for Achievement in Choreography, while the combined efforts of Tim Davies, Kevin Simpson and Andrew Morom will see them vying for the Achievement in Set Design award for their fairy-tale-worthy sets.
EMTC president Darcy Elliott congratulated all the nominees.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our cast and crew,” he said.
“These nominations are a true reflection of the hard work, creativity, and passion that went into making Into the Woods such a success.
“Community theatre is thriving, and the standard keeps rising every year. It’s wonderful to see so many of our members recognised alongside the best in the region.”
The winners will be announced at a gala event on November 1 in Wodonga.
