Whiteheads Creek resident Dorothy Lemin’s 90th birthday was marked with a visit from her grandson Nathan, who flew back from England to celebrate with her.
Daughter Marion Lemin said her mum “was so surprised” to see him.
“He’s been in England for four years,” she said.
“The last time he visited was two years ago, before COVID-19.”
Born on the Bourke Rd Bridge in Melbourne on the way to the hospital, Mrs Lemin grew up in Roseanna on a dairy farm. When she married Bill Lemin, she moved to Wattlesea, then Montmorency, where she lived for 40 years.
Finally, she moved to Whiteheads Creek, where she has lived for the past 25 years.
Ms Lemin said her mother had overcome a lot of adversity throughout her life. At 18, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis of the spine and spent 18 months in a plaster cast before she received a bone graft.
“Here she is now, and that bone graft has lasted the whole time,” Ms Lemin said.
Mrs Lemin celebrated her birthday with family.
