Demolition of the first floor of a heritage listed building, originally known as the All Nations Hotel at 38 Sydney St, Kilmore will begin on Saturday, October 8 and is expected to be completed on Monday, October 10.
Car parks from 38 to 46 Sydney St and the footpath directly in front of 38 Sydney St will be closed.
Traffic management will be in place and traffic speed in the area will be reduced to 40km/h.
There will also be infrequent stopping of traffic to enable debris bins to be put in place and collected.
The Mill St pedestrian mall will still be accessible but the sections directly adjoining the building will be limited.
Last year council received a structural engineer’s assessment recommending the first floor be removed for safety reasons.
After review and further advice, Mitchell Shire Council issued a building order for the demolition works of the building.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm said the damage to the building was further evidence of the need for a Kilmore bypass that would remove heavy traffic from the main street.
“The constant pounding of heavy vehicles has effects on the structural integrity of buildings, especially when they were built using early methods of construction,” Cr Chisholm said.
“Please take care if you’re in the area and follow all directional signage.”
