Marnie Deller and Trudy Fuller from Mind Australia explained their collaboration with The Haven Foundation to provide 16 units of social housing for people aged 18 to 64 living with mental health challenges.
The new units are located on Wimble St, Seymour, and are nearing completion.
Mind Australia is the nominated registered NDIS service provider that will deliver 24/7 support to the residents individually and the whole group.
The aim is to develop residents’ independent living skills within a supportive, friendly community.
A residential tenancy agreement was signed with The Haven Foundation, and an NDIS plan will fund the support services from Mind Australia.
The Haven Foundation has built units in other regional areas, including Bendigo and Mooroopna.
Residents are supported in strengthening their connection to the local community, including access to education, employment, hobbies and recreation.
Staff are being recruited for the Haven residence, and applications are open for future residents.
Some of the community members who attended the talk were looking at the Haven residence as a place to call home for a family member.
