Young women and non-binary individuals from rural areas across Australia will have the chance to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime ‘Power Trip’ to the nation’s capital.
Across the course of five days, the lucky winners will have the privilege of meeting with chief executives and politicians, undertaking leadership training, touring parliament and gaining access to ongoing mentorship and support as C2C alumni.
This year, entrants will draw inspiration from their own lived experiences as they answer the question: ‘Strong communities, stronger futures: How do diverse young leaders strengthen rural communities?’
Country to Canberra chief executive Pauline Siteaud said the Power Trip aimed to nurture and unlock the leadership potential of young individuals in rural communities as the duty of shaping Australia’s future rested with them.
“Young rural leaders continue to be the backbone of regional Australia — a fact highlighted over and over again when navigating the numerous challenges faced by rural communities in the past few years,” Ms Siteaud said.
“We want entrants to reflect on the strengths they possess, and how regional Australia can continue to be shaped by their enthusiasm and advocacy.”
For 2021 winner Maree Adams, who grew up in remote East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, Country to Canberra’s leadership competition was a transformational experience.
“Being a part of the Country to Canberra community has been one of the most elevating experiences that I have been a part of,” she said.
“C2C has been able to connect me with other inspiring young women and non-binary people.
“As a team, we are able to work together to make a difference in our communities and inspire other young Australians.”
Country to Canberra encourages all eligible rural students in Years 10 to 12 to take part.
