State Member for Euroa Steph Ryan is concerned about the level of support on offer to Colmont students entering public secondary schools in the region after the Kilmore school went into administration.
Year 12 students had their last day at Colmont on Tuesday, August 3. Administrator Cor Cordis has been looking at options while trying to find alternative schools for the affected students.
Broadford Secondary College’s catchment does not include all of Kilmore. If the school takes students outside of this catchment area, it may not receive state government funding.
“Broadford Secondary College has already turned away more than 30 prospective students for next year and, with a capacity of 825 students, the school is under significant pressure,” Ms Ryan said.
“With no public secondary school in Kilmore, Broadford needs urgent investment in its facilities to accommodate the growth that is occurring through the Hume corridor.”
Ms Ryan asked the Victorian Government to allow time to assess all options before the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority de-registered Colmont School.
