Trains will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey between Southern Cross and Albury, including all scheduled journeys between Seymour and Wodonga, for a week.
Works will be conducted on the North East rail line from 6am to 6pm daily from Saturday, March 12 until Monday, March 14.
A Rail Projects Victoria spokesperson said the works included installations of new infrastructure as part of the North East Line upgrade.
New crossovers at Longwood and Violet Town have been commissioned, which enables the introduction of new VLocity trains on the Albury line.
“The new crossovers will allow trains to change from one track to another, improving the line’s operation,” the spokesperson said.
Coaches will continue to replace all trains until March 20.
The Rail Projects Victoria spokesperson said train drivers needed to be introduced to the new infrastructure before services could return.
“Drivers need to know the location and sighting distance of signals, allowed speeds and recommended braking locations on the new infrastructure, as well as any other changes to landmarks or track conditions, so they can modify their driving accordingly,” the spokesperson said.
The training program involves running along the Albury line, which most drivers will complete while coaches are replacing trains.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation said there might also be some temporary changes to road traffic conditions while the works were being carried out.
