Doug’s Christmas has been an annual event for the Cobram community for more than 20 years and was started by local Doug McCarthy.
Mr McCarthy used to host Christmas lunch for those who would otherwise be alone during Christmas.
The event grew in popularity and moved to CCH before eventually moving again to the Cobram Bowling Club, where it is now hosted.
Despite Mr McCarthy’s death, his legacy lives on, and a committee was set up under the auspice of CCH to carry on his legacy, which is to be a Christmas destination for older people who would otherwise be alone.
Attendees can enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch with a roast and plum pudding dessert this year.
Santa will also come to spread along Christmas cheer.
The cost of entry is $20, and bookings can be made by calling Cobram Community House on (03) 5872 2224.
As well as Doug’s Christmas, CCH will run two appeals this year, including the traditional gift appeal and the Christmas Cheer pack.
Residents can support the appeals by donating gifts for children aged 0-12 or Christmas treats such as soft drinks, chips, lollies, shortbread and chocolates.
People can take their donations to CCH, Bendigo Bank, Barooga Aquatic and Recreation Centre and Haven Legal.
