The eight candidates from the new Nicholls electorate were contacted by the committee at the address listed on their websites, and four attended.
Independents Nigel Hicks and Andrew Bock, United Australia’s Stewart Hine and Labor’s Bill Lodwick attended, while Member for Nicholls Damian Drum had another commitment and no reply was received from the Greens’ Nickee Freeman, One Nation’s Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell or independent Jeremy Parker.
Committee president Pat Coffey said the forum was an informative night where a broad range of questions were asked about topics including the Murray-Darling Basin, climate change, pensions and preferences.
‘‘Written questions were answered first with a short time at the end for those from the floor,’’ Ms Coffey said.
‘‘All candidates presented in a positive manner and tried to convey their view or that of their party and gave a ‘no opinion’ answer in areas of unfamiliarity.
‘‘A light supper was provided and an opportunity was given for participants to follow up or discuss new ideas with candidates.’’
