BMX riders across Mitchell Shire are rejoicing this week following the completion of works at a district track.

The Broadford BMX Track has been made safer and more accessible after maintenance works were carried out by Mitchell Shire Council.
The track closed for a week in February to fix the degraded surface and narrow tabletops that made it dangerous for novice riders.
The surface of the track was sealed with a stabilising product to reduce future erosion and loose stone build-up and drainage issues were fixed.
The structural changes give the track a better flow and make it more interesting to ride.
“We’re really grateful that Mitchell Shire have listened to our requests for improvements to the track and can’t wait to see more people using it,” Seymour BMX rider Wade Worth said.
“BMX is a popular local sport and the accessibility improvements will encourage more people to give BMX riding a go.

“The Broadford BMX Track is a great community asset and I look forward to seeing lots of new faces out there.”
The Broadford BMX Track is open to the public and is located at The Parade, Broadford (off Jamieson St).
“We have a large cycling community in Mitchell Shire, and they told us the Broadford BMX Track needed some work,” Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm said.
“We’ve listened and got the work done and we hope this encourages more people to use the track or take up BMX riding for the first time.
“Staying active is important for all of us and this is another way council can encourage the community to live healthier, active lives.”
