Avenel Primary School’s star student, Bonnie the dog

Spreading herself between all classrooms, Bonnie helps specific students who might be feeling anxious, vulnerable or upset.

An intuitive and comforting friend and social connector, Bonnie has come to know when someone needs her and approaches them for a cuddle.

As well as being the cure for many ills, Bonnie provides a sense of responsibility as students are rostered on to care for her and take her outside for exercise breaks.

Bonnie was acquired through Dogs Connect, a Victorian-founded mental health program, and funded by School Focused Youth Services.
