Despite the cancellation of the racing action on the morning, a terrific crowd showed its support for the Gunbower Racing Club.

Club president Vicky McGillivray confirmed more than 90 per cent of people who had prebooked and prepaid happily accepted the club’s offer of a party-atmosphere afternoon at the track.

She says it was such an emotional boost for her and her committee, as well as everyone else in Gunbower.

“We had so many end-of-season footy and netball trips booked, along with several bucks’ parties as well as marquee and umbrella packages,” McGillivray said.

“To have so many people turn up to a racetrack without horses was such an amazing outcome on such a disappointing day and we genuinely, sincerely and so gratefully thank every one of those people, all our sponsors and everyone, from the track management team to our small army of volunteers, who gave it their everything to put some glister back on the Gunbower Gold Cup.”
