Described as the Brownlow Medal of the quarrying industry, the award recognises the best portfolio of evidence prepared and submitted by an individual to a registered training organisation.
Mr Hauser was the national winner of the award while studying an advanced diploma of quarry and mining management operations at the Box Hill Institute.
The 38-year-old had been supervisor at Seymour Quarries for seven years, quarry manager for one and has been employed by the quarry owner, Barro Group, for 14 years.
“I’m pretty chuffed about it. I’ve rarely been seen without the award since I got it,” Mr Hauser said.
“I was up against a heap of applicants and a lot of strong competition.
“I love what I get to do every day and it’s pretty special to be recognised for your efforts like this.”
Mr Hauser finished year 12 at the former Seymour Technical High School and was not sure what his next move would be.
“I had some earthmoving experience and enjoyed that, so a job with Barro seemed like a good idea,” he said.
“They saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself and I’ve been able to move up the ranks. They gave me a scholarship to study the diploma and I’m very grateful for that.
“Barro have supported me all the way and I’m really glad to live up to the potential they saw in me.”
