AEC state manager for Victoria Nye Coffey said more than 20,000 people were needed across Victoria alone.
“We’ve got over 23,800 jobs in Victoria and there are over 100,000 temporary positions throughout Australia, with jobs still available in most locations,” he said.
“The federal election is around one month away. Temporary election work is paid and no election experience is required — we’ll give you all the training and support you need.”
Most of the jobs are for work on election day itself, but some are for the weeks before and after the election, and the AEC is seeking people with diverse backgrounds to fulfil them.
“We want to have people working at polling places who reflect our diverse population, so we welcome registrations of interest from everyone — including people who speak a language in addition to English, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people with a disability,” Mr Coffey said.
Interested people should visit aec.gov.au to register their interest as soon as possible.
All election workers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a medical exemption, and must wear a face mask at work.
