The ‘Seymour We Want’ committee will celebrate the volunteers who have helped to improve the lives of local people at a meal on Friday, August 11.
Formed out of concerns raised in a report commissioned by Jesuit Social Services, which investigated disadvantage in Australia, the committee has been operating for more than 20 years.
A committee spokesperson said a lot has been achieved in that time.
“We’ve painted the underpass at the corner of Station St and Anzac Ave, published a community directory, and are responsible for the regular production of an e-newsletter detailing local happenings,” the spokesperson said.
At times the group has been a catalyst for community action, a clearing house of ideas and a support for those seeking positive change and information.
The group intends to use the dinner as an opportunity to reflect on past achievements and to look at what it can do next to enhance the town’s liveability
The committee has tried to invite all past members, however their records are not complete.
