The prestigious London Wine Competition, which receives entries from across the globe, granted medals to eight individual wines from the Mitchelton portfolio, including gold medals for three 2017 vintage premium shiraz varieties from Heathcote, and the 2019 Mitchelton Estate Chardonnay.
The 2017 Heathcote Spring Block Shiraz and the 2017 Heathcote Toolleen Shiraz both received gold medals and a rating of 93 points, while the 2017 Heathcote Red Label Shiraz was awarded 91 points and a gold medal.
The 2019 Mitchelton Estate Roussanne, 2020 Blackwood Park Riesling, 2019 Mitchelton Estate Marsanne and 2018 Mitchelton Estate Shiraz received silver medals, bringing the entire medal tally to eight.
The winery’s success has showed no signs of abating as Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine recently awarded Mitchelton best large cellar door in its national cellar door awards.
Mitchelton’s boutique hotel was also recognised, claiming the judges’ best accommodation accolade.
“The whole team here at Mitchelton is honoured to be recognised in this way,” chief winemaker Andrew Santarossa said.
“From the outstanding quality of our wines, through to the guest experience on site at our luxury hotel and cellar door – every care has been taken to maintain our place as one of Australia’s leading wineries.
“2021 is an exciting year for Mitchelton, with this year’s vintage shaping up to be one of the best I’ve ever seen.
“As we also look to release some limited edition 2018 vintage wines, we hope to continue to be recognised for our hard work across the estate.”
“Those looking to experience Mitchelton’s array of award-winning wines are invited to the estate in Nagambie for a cellar door and hotel stay like no other.”
The estate also boasts Australia’s largest commercial gallery of Aboriginal art, the Muse Restaurant serving refined, locally-sourced flavours, a day spa and pool, and a brand-new airstream hotel, all nestled by the banks of the Goulburn River.
