The 21-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identities of two victims, is accused of robbing and assaulting a 37-year-old woman with the sword in Orange in central western NSW on December 30.
The woman was in the passenger seat while he drove her seven-seater people mover, before he allegedly used the weapon, according to a NSW Police media statement.
"During the incident, police were told he allegedly assaulted the woman with the sword before driving off causing the woman to fall from the moving car," the statement said.
The woman was not treated for any injuries and officers found the car abandoned on Lawson Crescent, not far from the centre of the city.
The man was arrested and charged on New Year's Eve with robbery armed with an offensive weapon and aggravated assault with intent to take a motor vehicle.
He was also charged with being a learner driver unaccompanied by a licensed driver.
During a brief mention in Orange Local Court on Thursday, the man's solicitor entered not guilty pleas to three domestic violence charges unrelated to the alleged robbery.
Documents tendered to the court showed he is accused of stalking and intimidating another woman between October and December 2024.
He is also charged with two counts of property damage in alleged acts of domestic violence, with police accusing him of smashing the woman's windscreen and destroying her walls and bedroom doors.
The man, who has been refused bail and did not appear in court, did not enter pleas over the alleged robbery.
He will face a hearing on the domestic violence charges in May, while Magistrate Gary Wilson ordered a brief of evidence be served on the robbery charges by March.Â
