The Fernhill Angus Stud was established in 1998 and started with the purchase of 13 heifers from Hazeldean Pty Ltd.
It built its herd to 350 stud cows by breeding and purchasing females from Coolana, Witherswood, ICM, Welcome Swallow and Bluevale Angus studs.
“We believe the Angus breed has developed excellent genetics and marketing to provide high-quality protein products for human consumption,” Amy Bennett said.
“Current and projected advances should ensure a superior beef breed meets this requirement.
“All our females are inseminated annually, and then back-up bulls pick up any empty animals at the end of the AI program. Dick Whale selects the AI sires.
“In addition to the Breed Plan, we have commenced the Igenity profiling to provide more information for clients requiring to purchase bulls at our annual sale or private sale.
“We aim to breed bulls for use in commercial herds with emphasis on structural soundness, fertility, and good temperament.”
