Seymour’s clash against Kyabram in round 17 boiled its Goulburn Valley League senior season down to a 120-minute example.
Beginning slowly, with Kyabram booting seven goals to two in the first term, the Lions then worked their way back into the contest before flexing their collective muscle in the penultimate stanza, eventually falling short of success in the last.
It was much the same for Seymour across the season, winning one of its first eight games before snaring two wins on the trot and three out of five ahead of this Kyabram clash, with Mooroopna awaiting in the final round this weekend.
Thanks to GVL Data, the dominance of Saturday’s third term can be analysed — and for the Lions, hopefully extrapolated out across a full clash next week and into next year.
Seymour won the disposals 89-66, contested possessions 34-29 and intercept possessions 19-14 in the third quarter against the Bombers.
The Lions also took 36 marks to 20 — including seven contested to two — four more intercept marks and five more marks inside 50.
It resulted in a whopping ranking point differential of 183 Seymour’s way in the stanza and contributed to the Lions scoring five goals to one in the term.
Nathan Beattie had 62 ranking points of his own in the quarter, with Tom Maloney (48), Ricky Schraven (38) and Jack Murphy (35) also starring.
In fact, Seymour had nine of the top 11 ranking points earners in the term.
