Shepparton East Primary School principal Les Walsh said the school was excited for the week ahead, and not just for the students.
“We’re planning an open session to be held on Tuesday, May 16 at 2.30pm to 3.30pm, inviting all parents and community members to come into the classrooms and work with the students,” he said.
“Classrooms will hold active learner activities and those visiting can participate. For example, there may be an art-and-craft-style activity in one room, and in the next games will be played.”
Teachers will also be involved in the initiative to celebrate the physical activity portion of the theme.
Beginning with a house lunch, teams will meet together to share a meal before an exciting competition commences.
“We’re looking at hosting a teachers versus students activity, most likely it’ll be basketball,” Mr Walsh said.
“It will be a lunchtime activity ... we’ll see if the teachers can still shoot a few hoops,” he said.
As part of the hands-on learning approach, classrooms will run individual activities during Education Week.
Teachers will choose activities that best suit their students, such as a Lego competition, boat building, song creating, and much more.
“We really want to use this initiative as an opportunity for the students to have fun and approach their learning in new, exciting ways,” Mr Walsh said.
