This won’t be his first time in the area, performing in regional areas for a long time.
“I'm only two hours from Shepparton, so I’ve been in the neighbourhood a lot, but I haven’t played there for a while,” Camilleri said.
“I have always supported regional areas, I’m on a never-ending tour and it's all about regional.
“I've been playing in regional areas for 60 years.”
In those six decades of music industry experience, he said the most significant change he’s seen is the way people buy and interact with music.
“There was a time when even the covers of the record were important because that was the thing that would direct you to whether you like the aesthetics, and you’d go I don't know this band, but I love the cover, I’ll try it out,” Camilleri said.
“I think things are good for listeners, not so great for musicians where the record company sold all the back catalogue to these platforms like Spotify.
“I think it's a lot more difficult for musicians now than ever than it ever was before.”
For audiences at Saturday’s performance, Camilleri said he’ll be playing his best and most well-known songs.
“I want to take him on a journey,” he said.
“It’s a sit down audience, so I might talk a little bit more about the songs and if chat about my new music.
“It's about us having a really good time within the space and time that we have.”
Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows will perform at Riverlinks Eastbank on Saturday, November 9 at 8pm. Tickets can be bought by heading to the Riverlinks website.
