A group of environmentally conscious Tallarook locals planted more than 250 native plants on Sunday, August 18, to combat a blackberry infestation.

The Dabyminga Landcare Group planted 250 seedlings to replace blackberry thickets which had been removed by volunteers at Hedleys Lane in Tallarook.

The planting was funded by grant money from the Goulburn Broken CMA.

About a dozen volunteers, ranging in ages from three to more than 60, enjoyed the sunshine, and company, while improving their local area.

The group celebrated with a barbecue at the end of the day to applaud their efforts.

It has been tackling blackberries in Tallarook for eight years and people interested in joining can call Mark South on 0467 683 316.
