You might not be aware of GIVIT, but this not-for-profit organisation matches generosity with genuine need through an online platform.
The premise is simple: GIVIT wants to ensure that donations do no harm.
You might ask, ‘How could my donation be doing harm? I’m being generous and trying to help,’ but during times of disaster, across Australia, we see communities overwhelmed by well-meaning donations.
We need to change the mindset of generous donors to ensure recovery agencies are not burdened with the intense efforts required to sort, store and ultimately throw away donations.
That mindset shift prompted the GIVIT Together this Christmas campaign partnership between GIVIT and Greater Shepparton Foundation to support our flood-impacted families.
Recognising many families in Greater Shepparton are in temporary accommodation or staying with friends and family, GIVIT Together this Christmas encourages generous donors to support the purchase of gift vouchers, to allow families to select items suitable for their children, and situation.
If you are interested in supporting a flood-affected family by making a donation towards a voucher you can visit www.greatershepparton.foundation and find more about GIVIT Together this Christmas when the campaign officially launches on Thursday, December 1.
If you are from a local school wanting to support flood-affected families and would like to nominate them for support this Christmas, reach out to Greater Shepparton Foundation at info@greatershepparton.foundation
If you would like to find out more about the GIVIT platform and why Greater Shepparton Foundation views this partnership as essential to our flood recovery efforts, visit www.givit.com.au
Until next time, let’s reduce landfill, do no harm, inspire giving and fill real need this Christmas.
